The Parade of Lights has been a treasured Del Norte tradition for many years. On Dec. 6, merchants will hold an open house, starting at 4pm, and will be offering homemade goodies and punch to visitors to their diverse shops. There may be special sales on items to stuff the stockings of loved ones. The theme for this year's event is "Sleigh Bells Ring…an Old-Timey Christmas in Del Norte".

Let's put on a GREAT BIG SHOW in Del Norte!  Come out with your floats, wagons, walking and riding entries, all lit up with twinkle lights of every description! Registration forms are available through the Chamber website, www.delnortechamber.com. Parade starts at 6pm. We have several caroling groups lined up to entertain us while we visit the shops before, during the parade and after. Dress up in 1800's garb if you have it! Let's turn this little western town into a Christmas Wonderland for an evening.      Nowhere in the Valley will you find better, more diverse and convenient gift buying with the recent additions of several new stores to add to the amazing array of gift shops that have been here for some years. For example, Del Norte's Teleflora flower and gift shop, The Columbine, announces a SALE on several popular items. Christmas decorations came out this week too, so join Marsha and her crew for coffee, pastry and a stroll back through time in her delightfully old fashioned and unique gift shop, filled with beautiful and unique linens for any occasion, baby gifts, customized gift baskets and home decorating items. For the coffee drinkers they offer a rack of new and old books to enjoy over a homemade cinnamon bun.

Elk Ridge Framing and Gifts is a can't-miss shop which has been a high point destination in Del Norte since 2001. They are already decked out to the hilt for Christmas, with decorated trees of every description. If you need custom holiday decorating at your home, owner Marsha Deal and charming Elves, Jane and Donna, will design your one-of-a-kind festive rooms according to your budget. But they carry more than holiday finery, they also offer gifts for everyone on your gift list: quality custom picture frames, knives, binoculars and scopes for your hard-to-buy-for guy, Duck Dynasty men's gift sets, charming collectable kitchenware and house wares including Christmas dishes and decor, and customizable beaded jewelry. You will find many items under $20, Christmas truffles, free gift wrapping!

After a tough summer due to the fires, please consider your local Del Norte Merchants for your gift buying and holiday decorating this year. You may just fill your Gift List in one convenient visit!

"A Covered Wagon Days to Remember!"

The Del Norte Chamber of Commerce wishes to sincerely thank all who attended the Covered Wagon Days Event, whether in the parade, dog show, car show or any other events, or were a spectator or playing in the Park. It was a grand day for Del Norte this year, truly a year to remember! Opening ceremonies were dedicated to our Retired Firefighters of the Del Norte Volunteer Fire Department, and those wildland firefighters who have given their lives to protect us. The Star Spangled Banner was led by Nichole Cordova and graced by a stunning display of 5 beautiful airplanes flown by our local pilots. Kids wearing black mustaches entertained us with the "Biscuit Throw" like never before. And the entire parade, which lasted 50 minutes this year, gave us Tales to enlighten and uplift us.

On a personal note, as committee chair, I wish to extend heartfelt congratulations to all the committee members, who brought to the table their shared desire to build Covered Wagon Days back to what it was long ago, as well as their creativity, work ethic and passion, and in several cases their past experience. We could not have wished for a better team or for more support from the community, who let us know with their generous sponsorships that they were pulling with us.

If you run into any of the following CWD Committee members, please shake their hand:Will Kreutzer, Car Show; Adrienne Atencio, Park Activities; Gail Berndt, Dog Show; Doug Wibbenmeyer, Wagon Show; Monica Falk, Parade Admin; Cindy & Carl Hill, Gen Admin, Advisors, Historians, Announcer and much, much more; Alice & Ken Black, Kit Salway and her crew, Sharon & Steve Reznik, Ann Robinson, Donna Greeling, Donna Velasquez and John Bricker, each of whom contributed ideas, knowledge and many hours of their time to get the work done. The CWD Committee is asking for your favorite photos and videos from this year's events. They will be posted on our CWD Facebook page. We want to see it continue to grow, and have the excitement from this year's events carry over to next year. Please send your photos and videos to: karenbonnie@q.com

Look for a bigger and better Covered Wagon Days in 2014!

The Del Norte Chamber of Commerce would like to express our deepest gratitude to all first responders and personnel for their efforts related to the fires just to our west. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do on a daily basis!

If you know anyone who has been displaced or affected by the fires and evacuations that needs assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us at the Del Norte Chamber of Commerce through the website www.DelNorteChamber.org, or by stopping by the Red Cross Shelter setup at Del Norte High School. If you would like to help by donating time and/or materials, please do stop by the Red Cross Shelter and ask how you can help.

Many thanks are due to a few Chamber members for their efforts. Thank you to Donna Velasquez for cooking a wonderful spaghetti dinner for 70+ firefighters last week on behalf of the Chamber. Donna continues to help by volunteering her time at the Del Norte Firehouse, helping in every way she can. Thank you to Sharon and Steve Reznik for opening their doors to evacuees at the 7R Ranch Bed & Breakfast.  We’re sure there are many more thanks due to others that we’ve not yet heard of, so Thank You to everyone who has helped.

Lastly, thank you to the Del Norte community and businesses that have helped in this ongoing cause.  To the families of our Del Norte Fire Department, Police Department, Sherriff’s Office, and town officials, know that you are in our thoughts. We know that it is tough to have family members absent for extended periods of time. Your men and women are in our prayers for a safe return every time they are on duty.
